In gnome I've always echo managers lack multimedia Belly full and I'll managers of music, if, indeed, many gnomeros (extremists) tell me that music is rhythmbox, or use banshees, ok, my answer is no, rhythmbox is for me a nasty toy (toy not because it is bad software, but because I play with my PC:-D) and banshees, well, it is only useful if you take the time to compile both plugin you need, on the other hand is always you using kde in gnome (:~$) software so I was using (secretly) amarok and k3b (which has no decent replacement gnome and accept no cons!) but I really disliked the idea and, well, I go to use xmms, just like old times, but that it is something old to meet current needs (is that I'm more pretentious and want to see the letter song and the cover of the cd and stuff, but without installing anything extra.)
the end I left with Songbird, a software written in XUL and (obviously) with mozilla as the engine, very nice and fully functional, but ... consume vast amounts of resources on the machine, so that each who was playing with a vmware image, simply had to stop the music. All this until I came across Exaile, a software clone of amarok, but with gtk background (and not the QT:-D) because it download and install, I played with him, in about 15 minutes to download over of 1500 coverage of cds and without my noticing, and not to mention the consumption of resources, barely noticeable when it starts and is fully functional.
